St. Patrick’s Blog
Week of October 7th, 2013
While this will be a short week for our students (staff will be participating in Professional Learning activities on Friday), we have several activities planned.
I would first like to thank the many parents who came out to our first St. Patrick`s School Council meeting this past week.  We had great representation, and we appreciate the support of those who will be helping out.  I would like to congratulate our new council members who were elected at the meeting:
·       Council Co-Chairs: Clif Brown and Cees Artz
·       Council Deputy Chair: Ruba Dajani
·       Treasurer: Maureen Godin
·       Secretary: Renee Brown
·       CSPA Representative: Sandra Monforton
·       Parent Representative: Ana Barrett

I would also like to thank all parents and guardians who supported our “Adopt a School” partnership with Chapters/Indigo – we are awaiting the results of our fundraising but expect that things went very well over the past 3 weeks! I will announce the results of the partnership once we hear back from the organizers.
Letters went out to specific students regarding our literacy and numeracy classes beginning on October 16th.  Please know that all students are invited to take part, and more information can be obtained by calling the school.  The courses are free of charge, however, parents must arrange for transportation each evening after the sessions.
We have the Mothers Against Drunk Driving group coming in to the school on Wednesday to present to our students, and finally we are continuing to have our students fundraise for our Terry Fox walk on Thursday.  While it is a challenge to continue to ask our community for funds, we recognize that when we work as a large group we can accomplish great things.  Students who have raised $25 or more will have a chance to throw a pie at a staff member of their choice on Tuesday.  The walk will take place on Thursday afternoon after a condensed schedule in the morning.

Our student leadership group has organized a spirit week to coincide with our Terry Fox activities as well.
Monday: Pyjama and Crazy Hair Day
Tuesday: Twin day (dress up with someone else in your homebase)
Wednesday: Jersey day (sport your favourite team`s jersey with your uniform bottoms)
Thursday: Homebase T-shirt day (students will wear their homebase t-shirt for our Terry Fox run)
Students are reminded that if they are not participating in the spirit themes, they should arrive to school in full uniform.

Have a great week and a very happy Thanksgiving Weekend.
